Job Description:

The Nursing Assistant functions as a member of the health care team and provides skilled direct care to adult patients/residents. These patients/residents typically present with complex medical and psychiatric conditions and related functional and cognitive deficits. The deficits require that the patients/residents receive from partial to maximal assistance with activities of daily living. The incumbent applies basic scientific principles of nursing and advanced skills to meet each patient’s/resident’s unique physical and psychological needs. The employee must be sensitive to the cultural diversity of the patients/residents, family, and other members of the health care team. The employee assigned to this position is an active participant of the nursing team demonstrating a high level of clinical practice with minimal supervision.

Job Requirements:

• Subject to a background/security investigation
• Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959
• You may be required to serve a probationary period
• Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP)
• All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
• Must be proficient in written and spoken English

Qualification & Experience:

• One year above high school with courses related to the NA occupation. Completion of an intensive, specialized, occupation-related course of study of less than one year which resulted in attaining certification as a nursing assistant may also meet in full the experience requirements for GS-3.
