Job Description:
The U.S. Probation Office for the Eastern District of Virginia is accepting applications for the position of U.S. Probation Officer Classification CL 25, 27 or 28, for the Richmond Division. By statute, probation officers serve in a judiciary law enforcement capacity. An incumbent hired at the CL 25 or CL 27 level will be eligible for promotion to the Cl 27 and/or CL 28 level without further competition.
Job Responsibilities:
- Must undergo medical and drug screening, and a background investigation.
- Completion of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a field of academic study, such as criminal justice, criminology, psychology, sociology, or public administration.
- Must meet age requirements for Federal Law Enforcement officers.
Job Requirements:
MAXIMUM ENTRY AGE: First-time appointees to positions covered under law enforcement officer retirement provisions must not have reached their 37th birthday at the time of appointment. Applicants 37 or over who have previous law enforcement officer experience under the Civil Service Retirement System or the Federal Employees’ Retirement System and who have either a subsequent break in service or intervening service in a non-law enforcement officer position, may have their previous law enforcement officer experience subtracted from their age to determine whether they meet the maximum age requirement.
