Job Description: Court Reporter for the Fifth Judicial District, primarily assigned to work for District Court Judge Beattie in Des Moines, Iowa (Polk County). May be required to work for any Judicial Officer in the Fifth Judicial District per operational needs and may require travel. Job Responsibilities: Takes court testimony and proceedings by shorthand reporting methods. Reads back court testimony and proceedings upon request. Makes verbatim typed record of testimony and proceedings as required. Prepares transcripts, performs general office work and provides substantial clerical support for the court. Marks and records exhibits during court proceedings. Electronic document filing is required in all District 5 counties, so a high level of computer proficiency is essential. Performs related work as determined by the supervising judicial officer or the Chief Judge or his designee. Specific primary assignment(s) as designated by the District Court Administrator. Job Requirements: Graduation from high school (GED); graduation from a school of court reporting with courses including legal and medical terminology, English, typing and law. Must be certified as a court reporter by the Iowa Board of Shorthand Reporters or become certified within six months of hire. Final candidates must be able to pass a criminal background check.
