Job Description: State Farm is hiring an exceptional Lead Data Science Strategist to drive out the Data Science Strategy, and direction for Big Data Analytics across our organization. Reporting directly to the Executive of Enterprise Technology, this role serves as a key member of the Leadership team and is regarded as the highest level of Data Science technical leadership. The Lead Data Science Strategist is the key advisor on data science to all levels of leadership, consulting cross-functionally on broad, complex initiatives regarding big data, mathematics, statistics and technology. This role also develops best practices for analytics and data science, driving the development of a data driven enterprise with a common set of values, while also developing the State Farm brand in the public data science community through publications and other works that grow our value in the community. Job Responsibilities: Generates new data science opportunities within State Farm Consults and Informs for the overall direction of data science at State Farm, leading complex, sensitive and challenging data science projects with long term impacts Coaches and Mentors Data Scientists and Technical Leads Contributes to the external Data Science community through open source contributions, journal article publication, and creates new intellectual property for State Farm Regularly consults with C-Suite leadership, advising on and expanding data science opportunities Possesses extensive subject matter resource expertise on data science techniques and methodologies to solve complex problems Is recognized as an expert in the external data science community, bringing new and cutting edge data science techniques to State Farm Observes problems, spots opportunities and creates solutions Qualification & Experience: Expert in data analysis using Python or R Experience working within the AWS ecosystem & deploying apps in a cloud native environment (docker, Kubernetes, Sagemaker, Databricks, etc) Completed Master degree (PhD preferable): Data Science; Computer Science; Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Economics or related with a focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI) or Machine Learning (ML) preferred Qualified Candiates may be considered for 100% remote work arrangement** Broad experience building different types of advanced analytic solutions, including some of the following: time series analysis, cluster analysis, tree based algorithms, generalized linear models, or neural networks. 10+ years of relevant industry work experience providing advanced analytics solutions across large, complex organization Ability to communicate complex information to varying levels of leadership, to include C-suite executives in straight-forward, non-technical language. Extensive subject matter resource expertise on data science techniques and methodologies and is recognized as an expert both inside State Farm and in the external data science community In-depth experience gathering and interpreting business requirements to design and create scalable data science solutions within a regulatory environment, ideally within insurance, healthcare, or financial services business vertical.
