Job Description:

This position is located in the Office of the International Joint Commission (IJC) in Washington, D.C. The IJC is an international governmental organization established by the Boundary Waters Treaty of 1909. The incumbent serves as the Public Affairs Officer for the U .S. Section of the IJC and is responsible for the overall planning, implementation, management and evaluation of a proactive, integrated and comprehensive public affairs , communications and information program.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Formulates, develops, recommends, and implements strategies, long-range plans, program objectives, procedures, budget requirements, documentation and work priorities for the public affairs program to ensure that the IJC fully complies.
  • Serves as spokesperson, representing IJC to Congress, other elected officials, committee members and staff, individual citizens, U.S. and Canadian agency officials, and tribes, stakeholders, non-governmental organizations, industry, and groups.
  • Prepares speeches, slide presentations and talking points for Commissioners. Briefs Commissioners on public relations issues prior to public appearances, meetings with elected officials and media interviews.
  • Serves as Contracting Officer’s Representative for projects and services procured to support the IJC public affairs , communications and public information program.

Job Requirements:

  • Incumbent will be subject to random drug testing.
  • Verification of employment eligibility in the United States is required.
  • One year probationary period, unless excepted by regulation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • Statement of Employment & Financial Interest required prior to appointment.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
