Spacex Jobs – Sr Build Engineer Integration

Website SpaceX

Job Description:

Sr. Build Engineers are hands on with the product and are responsible for developing requirements and facilities capable of building orbital Super Heavy Boosters, faster than anyone thought possible. The Booster integration will make or break the rate of launches and we are looking to grow the team of engineers tackling this challenge. The Starship launch system will be the world’s most powerful and high rate launch vehicle ever developed, with the ability to carry in excess of 100 metric tons to Earth orbit.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Generate and maintain design for manufacturing requirements for the processes used to build Super Heavy Boosters
  • Become a subject matter expert for the build of a vehicle level system like aero control surfaces, propellant feed systems, actuation systems, thermal protection systems, secondary structures, avionics, primary structure, etc.
  • Design and implement tooling solutions to eliminate assembly error, improve quality, and accelerate build
  • Prove that a subsystem work center meets cycle time requirements, or own the design change required to meet target cycle time
  • Automate novel processes to ensure repeatability on a large scale production line
  • Operate as a systems level engineer to collect production requirements then plan and execute the build, integration, and validation of flight hardware to those requirements

Job Requirements:

  • Ability to perform job duties that require standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting upper body, working in cramped positions in small openings and climbing hand over hand
  • To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State. Learn more about the ITAR here.
  • Must be willing to work extended hours; flexibility required
  • Flexibility to travel to remote build sites, up to 10%
  • Work performed in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors, and noise
  • Typically exposed to work in extreme outdoor environments – heat, cold, rain
  • Flight hardware typically is built in tight quarters and physical dexterity is required

Qualification & Experience:

  • Experience with Siemens NX and Teamcenter CAD, PLM, Process Simulate, and other automation systems
  • 2+ years of professional experience in the field of aerospace/mechanical engineering
  • Experience in process development, facility and line layouts, error-proofing, factory optimization, lean principles
  • 2+ years of experience with GD&T concepts
  • 3+ year of hands-on project and build experience with complex mechanical, fluid, or avionics systems
  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, manufacturing engineering, materials engineering, mechanical engineering or engineering physics
  • 4+ years of manufacturing planning and process design experience
  • 1+ year of system level acceptance test exposure
  • Experience with mechanical design, including basic structures calculations and design considerations
  • Experience with large steel structure construction (civil, naval, or mechanical)
