Job Description: Monitors evolving science and technology in the area of space environment, terrestrial weather, and remote sensing to advance capabilities and accelerate transition into operational systems through rapid prototyping procedure and processes with the goal of reducing cost, risk, and improving performance of AF/DoD systems. Independently recognizes unmet requirements and searches for technology to meet the shortfall. Conducts scientific inquiry, develops or adapts mathematical models and prototypes the computer algorithms to evaluate their potential to support projects, studies, or problems. The incumbent utilizes mathematical and statistical techniques, elements of engineering practices, and knowledge of space and terrestrial physics, and remote sensing to develop new solutions to previously unresolved problems. Develops rigorous tests to establish the validity of adapted or newly developed methodologies and algorithms. Evaluates results, recommends courses of action, and establishes projects and programs to meet the need based on sound scientific theory. Job Requirements: Knowledge of related scientific disciplines including meteorology, astronomy, mathematics, engineering, statistics, quantum mechanics, chemistry, information processing systems and standards, high-level computer programming languages, and 4th generation productivity enhancements tools. Minimum of a MS in Physics, Meteorology, or Space Physics required. Operational experience is an added benefit. Need a minimum of 10 years’ experience, preferably in applied sciences.
