Job Description: SoCal Gas is looking for an advanced Technician/Specialist with an aptitude on performing a wide range of high level skilled work, independently or as a crew member, related to the operation and maintenance of all types of hydraulic, pneumatic, electric, and electronic control instruments and telemetering equipment in the transmission and underground storage system. Current opening is in Blythe, CA. This is a DOT position. Job Responsibilities: May provide work direction to crew members to other employees and provides general feedback to supervision as required. Operates and directs others to operate facilities to achieve and maintain optimum efficiency. Assembles, installs, repairs, adjusts and maintains instruments which record, indicate, or control temperature, pressure, flow, liquid level, gas quality, rotating equipment speed, etc. Assists with the installation and troubleshooting of data communication systems. Configures, modifies and uploads commercial manufacturers' remote transmitting unit (RTU) programs. On some assignments develops new programmable logic controller (PLC) programs. Changes set points, modifies local data tags. Develops and modifies new/existing HMI and local SCADA screens, data bases, trends and alarms. Modifies local operating screen displays. Performs shop work associated with development, fabrication and testing of new instrumentation equipment. Inspects and operates new equipment installations. Installs and maintains emissions control equipment and continuous emissions monitoring systems (CEMS). Installs, maintains and repairs electronic engine control systems such as air/fuel ratio controls and electronic governors. Works with Station Maintenance Specialists and technical staff members to troubleshoot and correct engine performance and emissions issues. Uses portable emissions test equipment to determine emissions levels for internal combustion equipment. Qualification & Experience: Must demonstrate understanding of gas quality devices (i.e., dew point monitors, O2 monitors, H2S monitors, NH3 monitors, etc.). Must have basic understanding of emissions controls and emissions testing equipment. Must pass a pre-qualification examination. Intermediate computer skills required. Must have 5 years of experience as a Measurement Specialist, Station Operations Specialist, or Station Maintenance Specialist, or equivalent in a related industry. Must pass a structured interview. Must pass formal Measurement and Instrument Specialists training for this classification. Must have knowledge and understanding of Analog and Digital Instrumentation; Smart Transmitters; Programmable Logic Controllers; Principles of Operation. Must demonstrate understanding of electricity and electronic, hydraulic and pneumatic schematics, concepts, and theories including the following: elementary electricity, including concepts of voltage, current, resistance, power, Ohm's Law, and common electrical units. Must pass a pre-qualification examination: Advanced Mechanical Test Battery-Technical/Specialist. Physical Abilities test requirement: Level C Successful candidates must possess a valid California driver's license and a safe driving record.
