Job Description: A Peace Corps Response Volunteer (PCRV) is needed to serve as a Youth Work Specialist with the Youth Work Agency of Georgia. In 2019, the Government of Georgia established the Youth Agency of Georgia and a wide-scale reform process aimed at forming a sustainable ecosystem for youth that will support the development process of youth potential and their engagement into decision-making processes. One of their top priorities is to develop youth Volunteerism in Georgia. Despite its importance, the culture of volunteering is very weak in Georgia. Only 27% of youth have engaged in any volunteering opportunities, including short term volunteering. Therefore, it is a priority for the Agency to learn more about volunteer programs and best practices in the US and EU. The PCRV’s help will be needed in educating the Agency about volunteer programs internationally, assisting the staff in developing resources that support awareness-raising of key stakeholders, and promoting volunteer opportunities in-country, including establishment of the nationally recognized awards for young volunteers. Additionally, the organization wants to focus on building the capacity of youth organizations. There is a lack of skills among youth organizations in developing strong ideas and transforming these ideas into projects. They also want to improve their writing, professional business communication, presentation, organizational, planning, and other skills. The PCRV’s will help support the creation of a needs assessment of the skill gaps and needs of youth organizations and develop capacity-building activities to improve the skills of youth organizations. Job Responsibilities: A PCRV with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Project Management or related field and experience in proposal writing, youth work and project development is needed to help support the efforts of the Youth Agency of Georgia. The Agency has 60 dynamic and highly qualified staff members with different backgrounds and experiences, but the Agency needs to learn more about youth work and volunteerism, as well as improve their communication, English language skills, time management, networking skills, and understanding of modern approaches in cultivating interpersonal relationships. The PCRV’s help will be needed not only in developing skills-based workshops, but also in supporting staff in communications, planning and implementing events, and developing partnerships. The goal of this assignment is to design programs that promote the development of volunteering in Georgia, while strengthening the knowledge and capacity of youth work and volunteerism.
