Job Description:

The Space Launch Systems (SLS) Program Office, Boosters Office, is seeking a skilled individual to serve as the SLS Booster subsystem manager for avionics. Selected candidate will be responsible for managing the flight builds and support for the Block 1 SLS booster avionics systems as well as leading the government insight team on the development program for the Booster Obsolescence and Life Extension (BOLE) program.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for avionics subsystems on matters of cost, schedule, and technical performance.
  • Provide program leadership to enable resolution of issues concerning design, manufacture, and testing of hardware.
  • Serve as the integrated product team lead (IPT) for the development and integration of the avionics subsystem for the Booster Obsolecense and
  • Life Extension development program.
  • Direct and coordinate development of design requirements and concepts and development of engineering efforts for product research, integration, and testing.
  • Lead the technical analyses of assigned systems requirements, providing insight into the contractor?s design and operations.
  • Evaluate contractor proposals and make recommendations. Develop, review, and provide recommendations for proposed project requirements, expected results, and budgetary estimates.
  • Support flight operations and make operational and real time recommendations and implement actions involving highly technical problems in complex integrated systems.
  • Serve as primary interface between the government engineering, Safety and Mission Assurance, and program stakeholders and the prime contractor and sub contractors.

Job Requirements:

  • In addition to the basic education requirement (shown below), you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.
  • To qualify for GS-14, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level that includes, but is not limited to: experience in engineering design, development, qualification, and production of avionics flight hardware to include addressing resources, risk management and mitigation strategies; and/or experience serving as a technical advisor and consultant providing advice and resolving systems design and/or integration problems; and/or design and development of EEE parts, batteries, cables and harnesses, and interfaces with flight controls; and experience with interfacing with multiple stakeholders such as contractors, engineering organizations, other NASA centers, and/or other external entities.
