Mercedes-Benz is on the forefront of new developments in the area of advanced driver assistance systems and autonomous driving. Innovative software and hardware is necessary to realize challenging customer functions in future Mercedes-Benz vehicles. The Senior Embedded Software Engineer will support and drive development of low-level embedded software and in-vehicle hardware platforms, including topics like board bring-up, network communication, device drivers, real-time OS and others. An important part of the role is to collaboratively work together with our hardware and software partners (Tier 1 and Tier 2). Integrating deliveries of partners, detecting and analyzing integration issues is also part of the role.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Mentor and supervise interns and colleagues with less experience
  • Potentially travel internationally to Germany
  • Bring-up Board Support Package on custom and commercially available hardware platforms and integration of 3rd party software drivers and libraries
  • Test individual software modules (e.g. device drivers, boot loaders or communication modules) as well as the entire system
  • Collaborate with other teams at MBRDNA and other R&D locations of Mercedes-Benz in an international setting, transfer knowledge gained on advanced technology across the company
  • Benchmark and analyze performance of software and hardware features
  • Develop high-quality embedded source code (C++) by applying best-practice software engineering methods (code reviews, design guidelines, refactoring, unit and regression testing)
  • Interact with the relevant communities to stay up-to-date and to identify innovation opportunities
  • Debug low-level issues at the boundary between hardware and low-level software
  • Collaborate and negotiate with our international stakeholders and development partners

Qualification & Experience:

  • Experience with C++ in embedded real-time systems, embedded Linux, embedded QNX
  • Experience with automotive communication protocols ETH, CAN, (Flexray)
  • Advanced knowledge in general software engineering (git, Linux command line, build systems, design patterns, automated testing, debugging)
  • Experience with Board Support Packages, embedded Development Kits
  • Experience with agile software development methods
  • Experience with Functional Safety wrt. embedded software
  • Experience with general lab equipment such as power supplies, oscilloscopes and digital multi-meters (DMM)
  • Advanced coding skills in embedded C/C++
  • Experience scripting languages (e. g. Python, shell script)
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Physics or related fields
