Job Description: An Advance Practice Provider is responsible for obtaining medical histories, performing physical examinations, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, assessing medical conditions, providing medical care and treatment, and performing related duties as required under standardized procedures and/or protocols established by the department at the City's Medical Services Division Occupational Health clinic or correctional care facilities. Job Responsibilities: In accordance with Civil Service Rule 4.2, all applicants who apply may not be tested in this examination. To meet anticipated hiring needs, only a limited number of qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the selection process in the following order: 1) Applicants currently employed by the City of Los Angeles who meet the minimum requirements, or are on a reserve list; 2) Remaining applicants who meet the minimum requirements in sufficient numbers to meet hiring needs based on a random sampling of these qualified candidates. Applications submitted during the filing period may be kept on file in the event that additional applicants need to be tested to meet hiring needs. Applicants not selected to be tested may re-apply in a subsequent filing period in order to be considered for that period's selection process. Job Requirements: a. Registered Nurse and certified as a Nurse Practitioner by the California Board of Registered Nursing with documentation of education and training as a Nurse Practitioner in family practice, adult, or emergency medicine, and possess a current license, Furnishing Number, and a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration number which provides the ability to provide drug/medication orders in the State of California; b. Physician Assistant with documentation of education and training as a Physician Assistant in family practice, adult, or emergency medicine, and possess a current license and a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration number which provides the ability to provide drug/medication orders in the State of California; Qualification & Experience: The examination will consist of an evaluation of training and experience, wherein candidates will be evaluated on their knowledge, experience, professional background and personal qualifications and abilities. Emphasis will be placed on their knowledge of: professional medical theories and practices; techniques for taking medical histories and conducting physical examinations; safety principles and practices; medical management for routine medical conditions; and the ability to: act independently and in accordance with established protocols and/or procedures; evaluate technical medical data and make diagnoses; conduct comprehensive and focused physical examinations; and other necessary skills, knowledge and abilities.
