KSB has nearly 180 years of service whose mission is to provide comprehensive educational services to all Kentucky students who are blind and visually impaired, birth to 21. KSB prides itself on helping all Kentucky students who are blind and visually impaired to develop their talents, their skills and attitudes to become confident, competent and independent adults.

Currently KSB has a vacant Institutional Recreation Leader I position in the Residential Section. As a Institutional Recreation Leader I, you will plan, organize and conduct therapeutic recreation programs and activities within the recreation program and performs other duties as required.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Plans, organizes and instructs KSB therapeutic residential recreational programs (both on-and off-campus activities) and various on-campus sporting activities.
  • Assists in the development of schedules for recreational activities and posts schedules online. Evaluates activities and students and develops treatment plans.
  • Inventory and survey recreation-related needs and make financial summaries and requests. Monitors purchases made with monies received.
  • Coordinates with the Kentucky School for the Blind Charity Fund for fund reimbursement under the grant program.
  • Instructs volunteers and houseparent’s who assist with recreational activities.
  • Runs the residential snack program. Inventories supplies and works with the Residential Director to ensure an accurate accounting of cash flow.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

This is a full-time, eleven-month position that does not perform duties during July. The annual salary is based on eleven months; however, it is calculated to be distributed throughout twelve months or 24 paychecks. Please be advised per 101 KAR 2:034 and KDE’s internal policy concerning the salary of newly appointed state employees, the salary range that KDE will consider offering to the selected candidate is $2,206.92 -$2,923.38. The salary range for this classification, for newly appointed state employees, is non-negotiable due to budget restraints.

The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with your Form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the U.S. KDE will only use E- Verify once you have accepted a job offer and completed the Form I-9.

Job Requirements:

  • EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor’s degree in recreation, physical education, special education or a related field.
  • EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: NONE
  • Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE
  • Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in planned recreation, physical education, special education or a related field will substitute for the required college on a year-for-year basis.
  • SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE
