Job Description:

The Buyer III is responsible for sourcing, analyzing, and negotiating goods and services for an area in which they specialize such as such as food, beverage, technical, IT, etc. They require comprehensive knowledge of specialized commodities to influence customers and suppliers in procurement decision of complex/critical goods and services. The position will also support the company’s sustainability programs by identifying risks and opportunities and managing supplier performance and adherence to certification requirements to ensure progress towards Sustainable Procurement Initiatives.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Performs moderately complex price analysis based on few variables and confers with suppliers to obtain product or service information such as price, availability, and delivery schedule.
  • Negotiates price, availability, and works with Logistics to define transportation and delivery schedule. (i.e., ordering and storing schedule)
  • Research suppliers from a variety of usual and unusual sources.
  • Manages supplier performance to ensure consistent service, high quality, and low costs of goods/services.
  • Assists in developing reports for tracking progress towards Sustainable Procurement initiatives; meet regularly with the F&B procurement team to review progress towards goals and potential risks.
  • Works independently with minimum supervision and freedom of decision within guidelines. Seeks guidance from management on unusual situations.
  • Assists with corporate Sustainable Procurement initiatives through periodic audits at supplier facility and ship side at time of delivery for required documentation and certification standards for key commodities.
  • May travel to attend trade shows, audit suppliers, visit ships for loadings, repositioning etc.
  • Develops a procurement and negotiation strategy based on few variables, including product sustainable certification status in line with Sustainable Procurement initiatives.
  • May provide guidance to junior positions (i.e., Buyer I, Buyer II).

Job Requirements:

  • Negotiation and analytical skills required.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally on key initiatives with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects and priorities.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products, specifically Excel.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate in a multicultural environment with all levels of employees and management.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

Qualification & Experience:

  • 5+ yrs. related procurement experience or specialized technical experience required.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and knowledge.
