Job Description:
As a Health Insurance Specialist, GS-0107-13, you will determine the appropriate Medicare Severity Diagnosis Related Group (MS-DRG) assignments for new and revised codes as well as the consideration of alternative assignments for existing codes.
Job Responsibilities:
- Consider various implications of International Classification of Diseases 10th Revision Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM) and ICD-10 Procedure Coding System (ICD-10-PCS) coding and MS-DRG refinement.
- Participate in the development and maintenance of Medicare’s Fee-for-Service (FFS) Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) and related policies.
- Prepare issue papers, reports to Congress, correspondence, and language used to develop regulations and sub-regulatory program guidance.
- Present and defend the results of MS-DRG assignments to staff in the Federal executive and legislative branches as part of the clearance process.
Job Requirements:
- You must currently possess the Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) Certificate and/or a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) Certificate. (Note: You must include a copy of your certificate with your application)
- You must be a U.S. Citizen or National to apply for this position.
- You will be subject to a background and suitability investigation.
