Job Description:
As a Manager, you will be the face of Purchasing both externally and into the Electrification Powertrain organisation and wider Ford team!
Job Responsibilities:
- Ford assessing possible equity positions at both tier 2 (cathode) and Raw Material (tier 4). This position leads Raw Materials assessments and establishes relationships
- Metals and mining expertise data management and material contract negotiation
- Develop raw materials expertise – creating/implementing value chain partnerships and negotiation strategies to reduce cost and protect supply
- Lead team through migration from strategy development to implementation phases across various battery raw materials
- Engage supply partners to develop a localized supply chain, source collaboratively, and develop value chain integration opportunities to help achieve cost glidepath targets while building expertise on raw material specifications, cost structures, and supply base
- Extensive EV product portfolio – Ford competing in all technologies: BEV, FHEV, PHEV, mHEV and soon Fuel Cells. Very complex and global, providing challenging environment to drive scale down through raw material providers (including mines)
- Significant interaction with Ford executive leadership to contribute as Ford POV is shaped on Electric Vehicle outlook/strategy/execution
- Collaborate with broader Purchasing and Engineering partners to align on global Raw Material strategic objectives, cycle plan requirements, responsible sourcing guidelines and current and future model cost competitiveness
- Drive Ford’s first direct engagements with sub-tier raw material suppliers to complement cell and cathode suppliers cost-effective, sustainable, and localised sourcing plans
Job Requirements:
- Flexible/adaptable to changing work assignments and business priorities
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience within battery raw material value chain, preferably with a commercial focus
- Innovative outlook and ability to work in a space that is evolving
- Excellent interpersonal skills including demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with Internal and External Partners/Suppliers
- Solid storyteller/presentation skills
- Capability to build networks across multiple skill teams
- Demonstrable understanding of current challenges facing the automotive industry in the ICE to BEV transition and the role of Purchasing to support the business
- Ability to lead team to decision-making aligned with overarching strategic vision
- Creative thinker/problem solver and ability to consider multiple points of view
- Strong technical understanding of li-ion batteries and the materials & processes within the value chain
