Job Description:

The City of Augusta, GA (pop. 200,000) established in 1736 is seeking highly qualified candidates for the position of fire chief. Located on the Georgia/South Carolina border, the city of Augusta, GA lies on the Savannah River, which supports its diverse economic endeavors as well as vast recreation options. The city is the center point of the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA), a 13-county region that includes both Georgia and South Carolina. It is located within close proximity to many major southern destinations including Atlanta, Columbia, and Charlotte. In 1996, the City of Augusta consolidated with Richmond County to form Augusta-Richmond County. This consolidated governing body consists of a Mayor and 10 Commissioners. Augusta is perhaps best known as home of the Masters® Golf Tournament held the first full week in April. The area is also a center for medicine, manufacturing, and Fort Gordon, home to the United States Army Cyber Center of Excellence and host to a multi-service community of Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and multi-national forces.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responds to emergency calls when summoned; may direct traffic and control crowds; providing basic and advanced life support emergency medical services; responding to and performing fire suppression; respond to spills of fuel or hazardous substances and bomb threats; preparing detailed records and reports/records; providing assistance to the public; ensures understanding and compliance with state, county and departmental policies; complies with all rules, orders and instructions issued by superior officer; may take on the role of Officer including, but not limited to, assuming command of an incident, determining the need for additional resources; administers emergency care; transports victims to the appropriate emergency care facility which may require communications with the medical facility; checks and prepares equipment and/or supplies; cleans, disinfects and maintains medical equipment; throughout the shift maintain the fire station both inside and outside, mopping floors, washing windows, sweeping, shoveling walks/driveways/approaches, cleaning the kitchen and bathrooms; while on shift will inspect and confirm the operating status of the apparatus – checking fluid levels by gauge and manually, operating pumps, ensuring that all equipment is on board and that radios operate properly; conduct fire code inspections; educates public in matters of fire safety, health care and emergency situations; participates in continuing education, training and instruction programs by individual study of technical material and attendance at scheduled training, drills and classes; ability to read and speak English; participate in physical fitness and mental training; may be assigned to operations, administration, or other roles as necessary; performs related tasks as required or assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Must be 21years old at the time of hire; must be US citizen; must possess and maintain a valid Indiana Operators License; must have High School diploma or its equivalent; must currently be in PERF 77; must possess and maintain Firefighter I & II certifications; must possess and maintain an Indiana EMT-B certification; if applying for FF/AEMT must possess and maintain an Indiana EMT-AEMT certification/EMT-AEMT; if applying for FF/Medic must possess and maintain Indiana Paramedic license/EMT-P; must have Fire Officer I or higher or obtain certification within 24 months after hire; must have NIMS 100, 200, 700 & 800/800(a) or obtain within 1 year from hire; may be required to maintain additional certifications (Top Water Rescue, TEMS or other certifications). You will be required to pass a written and/or practical examination with our affiliation Hospital related to your certification/license level of EMT-B, EMT-AEMT, or EMT-P.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Advanced ALS Protocols through IU Health incl RSI, Trauma Protocols, Pain Protocols, and more.
  • Completed Background check online through Safe Hiring Solutions. Information provided in the packet.
  • Copy of all your certifications and/or licenses.
  • Copy of your current EMT-B, EMT-AEMT, or EMT-P license or certificate & copy of current CPR & ACLS Card.
  • If applicable, please provide a copy of your DD214.
  • Copy of Indiana Driver’s License.
  • Copy of birth certificate.
  • Copy of High School Diploma or its equivalent.
