Job Description:
This position is located in the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration, Office of Job Corps. The OJC provides Federal contracts and technical assistance to State and local levels that provide workforce development services to various adult and youth populations.
Job Responsibilities:
- Develops, implements, monitors, evaluates and modifies Job Corps communications. Assists the National Director as a principal Job Corps communication point for constituency groups, including the Offices of Public Affairs, Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs, and with Congress, the media and other public entities.
- Provides leadership and direction to a large group of contractor personnel. The incumbent directs a major program segment with significant resources; oversees contractor support and ensures the adequacy of completed work; decides on work problems presented by personnel, or by contractors.
- Oversees developing proactive and strategic communication strategies and activities to promote Job Corps strategic goals and enlighten the public about the program’s accomplishments.
- Works closely with Departmental counterparts to ensure that Job Corps’ partnership program, and communication strategies are consistent with and supportive of the goals of the Secretary.
- Maintains liaison and effective relations with a variety of foreign, federal, state, and local government officials in furtherance of Job Corps goals and objectives.
- Establishes and maintains relationships with business and industry officials, members of Congress, and leaders of special interest organizations for the purpose of explaining, gaining support for and feedback on Job Corps goals and objectives.
- Coordinates and facilitates contact between the Office of Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs regarding Congressional inquiries and preparing testimony and backup materials for Congressional hearings involving Job Corps matters.
Job Requirements:
- Must be at least 16 years old and a U.S. Citizen.
- Appointment to this position may require a background investigation.
- Requires a probationary period if the requirement has not been met.
