Job Description:

The position requires moderate periods of standing and sitting while in the office. While in the field, considerable walking, lifting, bending, climbing, stream wading, or working in motorized watercraft is necessary to collect data. Office conditions do not require special safety precautions; field conditions may include extreme heat or cold, rain or snow; hazardous conditions such as ice or flooding; or exposure to irritant or toxic chemicals. Work may require the use of personal protective equipment such as masks, coats, boots, goggles, respirators, or life jackets.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Collects and properly archives streamflow and groundwater data using established methods, sometimes in adverse conditions.
  • Operates and maintain gaging equipment and electronic recorders and sensors, keeping detailed notes and site sketches that will aid in the computation of surface water records.
  • Establishes and maintain stream gaging station structures and groundwater well structures.
  • Interacts and communicates effectively with colleagues and the public in a positive manner.
  • Completes assigned work within established deadlines.
  • Operates a government owned or leased vehicle as an incidental driver.

  • Applicants must be U.S. Citizens.
  • Suitable for Federal employment, as determined by background investigation.
  • The duration of the Recent Graduates appointment is a trial period.
