Job Description:

Work as a member of a crew away from home all week, working four-ten hour days to install new railroad track, maintain existing track and right-of-way. Employees must be able to meet and comply with the manufacturer’s weight limitation safety rating and recommendations for any equipment associated with performing their duties, including the 300 lb. safety rating for ladders (both portable and affixed) and fall arrest equipment.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Correct deviations in track surface, alignment and gauge
  • Cut rails to specific lengths
  • Drill holes through rails for insertion of bolts and tighten or loosen bolts at joints that hold ends or rails together
  • Slide and align tie plates
  • Receive instructions, requests, orders, and information from posted bulletins, memorandums, rules and regulation manuals
  • Participate in group discussions including unit meetings, job briefings, safety meetings or process reviews
  • Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)
  • Adjust, lift and roll rails
  • Remove and replace track and track components (e.g. ties, rails, bars, etc.)
  • Replace or repair track switches with specific components

Job Requirements:

  • Reasoning skills (problem solving and troubleshooting skills)
  • Communication skills (provide clear instructions/directions)
  • Basic Math
  • Verbal comprehension (Understand oral and written communications)

Qualification & Experience:

  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) – Class B
  • 18 years of age or older
  • One or more years of outside work exp (e.g. construction, heavy equipment op, farming,etc)
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Welding experience
