Job Description:

The City of Oxnard’s Public Works Department is seeking an Advanced Water Treatment Operator III with strong technical and customer service skills to be part of the Water Division team.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Inspects and cleans assigned trucks and equipment; report mechanical and other problems; keep trucks and equipment stocked with proper tools, supplies, and materials.
  • Checks pumps, motors, hydraulic lines, structures, tanks and mechanical equipment for proper operations.
  • Collects samples and performs routine chemical tests/analyses, records sampling and test results, prepares samples for testing as needed; analyzes and evaluates in-house laboratory results, data and takes corrective action as appropriate.
  • Operates light and medium-duty equipment, such as pickups, utility service trucks and forklifts.
  • Housekeeping and preventative maintenance duties.
  • Maintaining both electronic and written operational logs and records, collecting samples and performing entry level laboratory tests for process control purposes.
  • Additional procedures include, safe chemical handling. Chemical handling procedures include, but are not limited to, safe chemical delivery unloading, safe chemical transferring, chemical leak identification and isolation, and chemical line flushing. Use standard hand held or bench top water quality test equipment for process monitoring, troubleshooting and analysis.
  • Takes meter, gauge and control panel readings and observes variations in operating conditions; interprets readings; monitors and changes flows and processes within established parameters; reports readings and processing changes on operation logs and records.
  • Monitors AWPF SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) alarms, instruments, gauges, and meters for process control.
  • Performs duties that include all AWPF and Water desalter operating procedures, minor maintenance, and facility and equipment upkeep in order to assure compliance with applicable regulations and permits. Procedures include, but are not limited to, AWPF start up and shut down procedures, Microfiltration (MF) operations and maintenance procedures, and Clean in Place (CIP) procedures for MF, Reverse Osmosis (RO), Ultraviolet/Advanced Oxidation (UVAOX), and De carbonator operating procedure/pH control.

Job Requirements:

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid class “C” California driver’s license.
  • The AWTO III position may require an AWTO Grade 3 certification if mandated by State Regulations.
  • Candidates must have either a California Grade III Wastewater Plant Operator Certificate or a California T3 Water Treatment Operator Certificate upon employment.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • The equivalent of three (3) years of experience in the operation of one of three following; advanced water treatment, wastewater treatment or water treatment and;
