Job Description:

As a Communications Officer for the CIA, you will support a diverse range of public affairs functional areas including internal communications, public communications, media relations, and event planning. You may also create metrics to measure the effectiveness of communications and advise senior leaders. You will be a member of a team and operate with independence and autonomy in drafting communications, meeting with customers, writing articles and other communications products. Additionally you may be interacting with the CIA workforce, Intelligence Community, and the public.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Opportunities exist to participate in internal training as well as external workshops and conferences, and you will be expected to develop and maintain your skills commensurate with industry-wide best practices.
  • The Office of Public Affairs (OPA) is part of the CIA’s Enterprise Functions, which provides governance and oversight to the business of intelligence effort across the Agency at Headquarters and in locations worldwide. OPA advises and supports Agency leaders on all communications through long- and short-term strategies, message content, speechwriting, event planning and execution. OPA also educates external and internal audiences on the CIA’s mission. Learn more about the Office of Public Affairs .

Job Requirements:

  • Marketing
  • Ability to research and draft original content for a variety of channels and audiences
  • Bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields, or related studies:
  • Communications
  • Journalism
  • Public Relations
  • Have practical understanding of digital tools including SharePoint and WordPress content management systems
  • GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4-point scale is preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills

Qualification & Experience:

  • Advise on, analyze, and support the implementation of feedback mechanisms (quantitative and qualitative) to measure effectiveness of communication
  • Demonstrated ability to write clear, concise, accurate text and to proofread and correct English usage, spelling and punctuation
  • Have good understanding of accessibility and usability issues; create content that meets ADA 508 requirements
  • Ability to organize events that advance communication objectives; may include a range of tasks related to logistics and content
