Job Description:

This vacancy is for a Survey Statistician position in the Field Division located at the U.S. Census Bureau Headquarters in Suitland, Maryland. The Census Bureau is accessible from the Metro Rail Green Line – Suitland Station. This Job Opportunity Announcement may be used to fill other Survey Statistician, GS-1530-7/9/11/12, FPL 12 positions within the Census Bureau in the same geographical location with the same qualifications and specialized experience.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes findings, evaluates statistical limitations of data, and specifies the range of logically possible explanations.
  • Adapts a variety of methods and develops new procedures to statistical projects.
  • Plans, researches, and implements the full scope of investigative projects requiring application of statistical theory.
  • Plans procedures for collecting and tabulating data, recommends new or improved methods, and presents findings.

Job Requirements:

  • Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the announcement closing date.
  • You may be required to complete a financial disclosure (OGE-450).
  • Suitable for Federal employment.
  • Registered for Selective Service, if applicable. (www.sss.gov)
  • U.S. citizen.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Degree: that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc.  Credit toward meeting statistical course requirements should be given for courses in which 50 percent of the course content appears to be statistical methods, e.g., courses that included studies in research methods in psychology or economics such as tests and measurements or business cycles, or courses in methods of processing mass statistical data such as tabulating methods or electronic data processing.
