Job Description:
Under the administrative direction of the Deputy Superintendent of the Instruction and Measurement Branch, the Educator Excellence and Equity Division (EEED) Director provides leadership in policy development and program administration. The Director plans, coordinates, and directs the activities of Division administrators and staff to work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders to build the capacity of the educators in California’s education system to successfully and equitably support the academic, social, emotional, and health needs of California’s diverse students. The EEED supports implementation of evidence-based professional learning systems, supports statewide professional learning to implement all State Board of Education (SBE) adopted content standards and curriculum frameworks, and shares information regarding professional learning opportunities with California’s educators. In addition, the EEED implements programs and promotes strategies to support student health, safety, and well-being and promotes equity through development and implementation of federal and state policies related to the educator workforce through ongoing collaboration with the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, the California Subject Matter Project, California county offices of education, and various professional associations. Central to this work is the administration of a variety of grant programs, including, but not limited to, Title II, Part A of Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), the Comprehensive Literacy State Development Program, the 21st Century California School Leadership Academy, various grants to support health and safety, and five distinct grant programs related to Tobacco Use and Prevention Education. The Director provides leadership and assistance to educational entities, the federal government, the Legislature, legislative staff, local educational agencies (LEAs), SBE, general public, businesses, and community organizations statewide.
Job Requirements:
- Experience at the administrative level in leading and establishing educational strategies, program goals and objectives for professional learning programs.
- Experience at the managerial level in developing and implementing educational policies.
- Experience in managing multi-disciplinary professional and technical staff in order to advance the activities of an educational program.
- Experience at the managerial level in developing and implementing a broad-range of educational programs including strategic planning, performance measurement, benchmarking, and organizational development.
- Experience at the managerial level in collaborating with a variety of internal and/or external groups on educational issues of a high profile and/or politically sensitive nature.
- Experience at the administrative level in effectively planning, implementing, and monitoring State and Federal funding, including budgeting, grants management, monitoring, establishing effective controls, and reporting of results.
