Job Responsibilities:

  • Represent the Office to the field. Meet and work collaboratively with representatives of key local, state, and national programs; present, formally and informally, to a variety of audiences; gather feedback and concerns from stakeholders; clarify policies and procedures; promote networking among key stakeholders. Travel, locally and nationally, to attend and/or provide presentations at program-related meetings and conferences.
  • Direct the formulation of strategies to implement the policies, programs, and priorities of the Superintendent of Public Instruction, the California Department of Education (CDE), and the State Board of Education. Consult with key CDE and Smarter Balanced staff; develop and administer a plan for communication and outreach efforts that support the implementation of the ELA and Mathematics Assessments; recommend and obtain approval of major implementation strategies; direct the implementation of office tasks; propose strategies and changes, including legislation.
  • \Oversee administrative responsibilities of the Office. Interview and select new personnel; provide direction, guidance, oversight of office staff; monitor, evaluate, and provide constructive feedback on staff performance; approve travel and leave requests; conduct, arrange, and approve staff training; oversee the budget allocated to the office. Perform other job-related duties as required.
  • Oversee the preparation of Office work products. Determine tasks, timelines, and due dates; assign tasks to staff and communicate responsibilities and expected work products; review, provide feedback on, and approve deliverables; ensure policy and format consistencies; oversee the preparation of budgetary documents; oversee contracts administered by the office; analyze proposed legislation that impacts on the work of the Office; and ensure that correspondence meets Department standards and policies.

Job Requirements:

    • Experience with state standards, curriculum, and instruction
    • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work tactfully with diverse stakeholder groups on educational issues
    • Excellent leadership skills
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively to ensure quality deliverables and meet project deadlines
