Job Responsibilities:
- At the GS-11 full performance level, the position serves as the administrative and technical lead for all aspects of the Safety and Occupational Health Program for a District/Field Office, including advising and supporting management/supervisors and employees; implementing annual safety and health action plans; accomplishing program requirements; and preparing budgets and funding requests. The incumbent is responsible for education and training, accident investigation, and risk management for employee, public, resource management, recreation, heavy equipment, road maintenance, wildland and prescribed fire, industrial hygiene, and laboratory activities. The incumbent also provides safety leadership and guidance to Collateral Duty Safety Officers within the District/Field Office.
- The GS-09 position serves as a developmental Safety and Occupational Health Specialist in a BLM District Office or Field Office. At this grade level, the incumbent will perform the duties of the full performance level position at a reduced level of responsibility and/or difficulty while receiving on-the-job trainee assignments or other appropriate training. Assignments are designed to prepare the incumbent to perform the duties and responsibilities in the target position of Safety and Occupational Health Manager, GS-0018-11.
- These varied activities require the interpretation and implementation of numerous regulations and policies involving chemical use, flammables and combustibles, hazardous materials, welding, machines and heavy equipment, wildland and prescribed fire, mining activities, oil and gas operations, aviation activities, off-road vehicles, respiratory protection, recreation activities, warehousing, electrical systems, watercraft, and hazardous materials waste and disposal sites. Incumbent is responsible for facilitating safety program implementation in all activities and locations within the District/Field Office.
Job Requirements:
- If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
- Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males
- You cannot hold an active real estate license, nor can you have an interest or hold stocks in firms with interest in Federal Lands.
- You may be subject to 24-hour call back.
- U.S. Citizenship required
- May be required to complete background investigation.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
- Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
