Job Description:
The Center for Vision Health provides free or reduced cost routine and low vision healthcare to uninsured, under-insured and at-risk adults and children, who are low-income, indigent, working poor or homeless and cannot afford to take care of their eyes. Blindness and vision impairment are major public health problems and it has been estimated that at least half of all blindness can be prevented through timely diagnosis and treatment. Data show that more than half of adults do not seek eye care due to lack of awareness or costs. Of the roughly 4 million people residing in North Texas, over 900,000 individuals need vision correction but can’t afford to pay for basic eye care. You can help us change that with your public health outreach to community organizations in North Texas, increasing visibility for the vision clinics and assisting with creating community partnerships. While Vista positions are fulltime, they are not salaried positions. The Center for Vision Health is also providing an additional $200 per month for gas and food.
Job Responsibilities:
Create and expand our community outreach efforts for our North and South Dallas vision clinics; increase those efforts and make them more effective, leading to more community partnerships for the Center for Vision Health and increasing access to vision healthcare for low-income and indigent populations. This position also develops and facilitates the Senior Vision Coalition, a group of senior level gerontology experts in the DFW area. Will need experience with building community partnerships and navigating resources in Dallas County.
