Job Description:

This Direct-Hire position is in the Food and Drug Administration and is located in the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, in College Park, Maryland. This position supports CFSAN’s responsibilities for scientific analysis and assessment pertaining to the safety and quality of various food, dietary supplement, and cosmetic commodities and the associated impact on food labeling, food and color additives, infant formula, dietary supplements, and/or cosmetics.

Job Responsibilities:

• Independently plans and conducts scientific investigations, method development, and/or testing activities. Assignments may be complex and long-term projects that involve researching and developing multiple types of scientific measurements and tests.
• Evaluates chemistry data and information from a variety of sources to determine the safety and effectiveness of food, dietary supplements, infant formula, food labeling, and/or cosmetic activities.
• Prepares a wide variety of documents, such as written responses to inquiries from FDA field offices on policies, regulations, positions, and regulatory guidelines.
• Maintains effective communication relationships with industry associations, academia, and other government agencies to keep abreast of current industry practices and problems.
